June workshop will examine self-built settlements
Yes

"Paradigm Shifts in Housing: Informality & Incremental Housing" will focus exclusively on the self-construction sector within informal settlements. Very little about the informal housing sector is understood or discussed, despite the fact that approximately 60 percent of the current affordable housing stock is in informal settlements. This workshop brings researchers, practitioners, and urban specialists together to share knowledge across sectors and generate a sharper understanding of the informal housing sector.

Co-hosted by mHS, Centre for Policy Research, and Access, the interactive seminar will focus on problem-solving around four themes: basic service provision, security of tenure, technical assistance and disaster preparedness, and finance. Read more about the workshop in our current newsletter.

mHS seeks two hard-working, motivated interns to join its team!
Yes

micro Home Solutions seeks two hard-working, motivated interns to join its Delhi-based team of architects, urban planners, anthropologists and economists! Students and non-students from any discipline are welcome to apply. Minimum commitment is two months, and we especially welcome applicants who are available for longer. The affordable housing and inclusive urbanization movement is stronger and more dynamic than ever. Join mHS if you want to work on meaningful projects with a multidisciplinary team!

mHS seeks a Communications and Outreach Intern and a Community Relations Intern.

Communications and Outreach Intern

micro Home Solutions seeks a Communications and Outreach Intern for a minimum period of two months. The intern will assist the mHS research, advocacy and communications team in implementing an interactive workshop on informal settlements and self-construction for major players in the affordable housing sector. As mHS seeks to create energy and conversation surrounding the workshop, the intern will develop and implement effective social media and outreach strategies. The intern will gain experience in advocacy and communications, and further be introduced to the critical themes and questions surrounding self-built communities in urban India. The ideal candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills; a demonstrated interest in informal settlements; and a thirst for understanding the policy and research angle of inclusive urbanization work.

Interested candidates should send a cover letter and résumé to info@microhomesolutions.org. We seek someone who is available to begin work on or before 15 April.

Community Relations Intern

micro Home Solutions seeks a Community Relations Intern for a minimum period of two months. The intern will assist mHS in conducting an actionable study on the major urban and housing-related issues in the informal settlements of Ranchi, Jharkhand, the results of which will inform an intervention strategy for improving quality of life in these communities. The intern will hone her/his skills in community engagement, impact the design of a long-term housing intervention strategy, and come to understand through grounded field experience the challenges and opportunities facing India’s rapidly urbanizing smaller cities. The ideal candidate will have experience working in low-income and marginalized communities; exhibit a keen ability to build relationships; and demonstrate a strong interest in urban issues. As the intern will be conducting field work, s/he must be available to travel occasionally to Ranchi.

Interested candidates should send a cover letter and résumé to info@microhomesolutions.org. We will give preference to applicants who are available immediately.
